We were well placed at the half of the one-day Swiss but three missed games in the evening were too much to overcome against the stronger teams and we fell to a mid-table finish. The VP scale is just brutal when you lose.
Today is the start of the Vanderbilt and 69 teams have entered. We are the number 56 seeds. This means that we were ranked in the 49-56 group and then shuffled into our actual position; the team lucky enough to get the 49 slot actually has a bye today whereas we need to win a match to get into the round of 64.
We are in a four-way with three qualifiers. We play a 32-board match this afternoon and the winners go through and have the evening off. The losers play the losers of the other match in our group this evening and again the winners play tomorrow. I don't know any of the other teams but then they probably don't know us either :-)
Weather-wise it remains cool with rain and sleet threatening. Everyone promises that it will get warmer ... tomorrow.
