Another quiet match

There was another quiet set of boards in the BBO InterCity League but we managed to eke out a 24-14 imps win. Harry and Adrian were at one table and I was playing with Phil (all of us played last weekend, me in the English Premier League and the others in the Scottish trials).

Phil and I had a nice, controlled, sequence on the very first board:

However with the spades breaking and the queen onside the slam was there for the taking. But we only lost an imp when they were in the same contract and Phil took a safe line.

The score was 0-2 imps when I had the following bidding problem:

Your call? You have not discussed a defence to multi but you'd expect that overcalls are natural with double showing 12-16 balanced or a very strong hand. Two spades may be natural and it may be a cue bid. Any thoughts?

Our two biggest swings were when Phil and I managed to defend a notrump partscores accurately. Combined with Harry and Adrian playing the contracts better.

We are currently fifth in the table and next Wednesday play a team currently 4 VP below us.
